Made-To-Order Custom Jewellery
Appointments can be booked by phone at (780) 423-0890, or through our website. Please visit the ‘Our Team’ section of our website to see more information on our designers and their styles!
We are happy to offer a few options for you regarding your gold. We can either melt down your gold to use in your new piece or buy the gold from you to be sent to the refinery. If you would like to use the value of your gold towards an in-store purchase (either custom or an item out of our showcase), we give you 90% of the pure value of your gold. If you prefer we purchase your gold outright, we will pay you 70% of the gold value.
If you opt to use your existing gold for something new, we charge a $200 fee for the labour to separate, clean, and remove the impurities from the gold to melt it down.
If your project requires a faster completion, please discuss this with your designer. We will do our very best to accommodate rush orders.
Repairs
Our pricing depends on several factors: the type of metal, the design and width of the ring, the type and number of gemstones set in the ring, and if we’re sizing it up or down. Sizing prices start at $75 when sizing down and may increase from there.
We strive to have sizings completed within 1-2 business days. First sizings on engagement rings that we have manufactured will try to be finished within the same day they are dropped off.
Timelines for completion are dependent upon the availability of our goldsmiths and the complexity of the repair. Our goldsmiths may extend that timeline if the need for more repairs are discovered. In this situation, the matter will be discussed with the client prior to proceeding.
An exception to this practice will include jewellery from designer brands purchased from our showcase. Brands typically warranty their own product, so these items are shipped to their headquarters for repairs and warranty issues. Shipping and insurance charges will apply. The designer brand may issue repair fees where warranty is not applicable.
Care & Cleaning
However, we are happy to clean them more often! If you have an upcoming event and want your jewellery looking their best, feel free to drop by and we will inspect and clean your jewellery at no cost. We are happy to provide this service even if you didn’t purchase your jewellery from us (up to 5 items)! It only takes a few minutes and will give you peace of mind and also return that beautiful sparkle!
For most jewellery, you can use a 10:1 ratio of warm water and a mild detergent like Mr. Clean or Dawn dish soap. Use a soft bristle toothbrush (a baby toothbrush works great) to clean underneath and all around the diamonds/gemstones. Rinse with warm running water and repeat if necessary. Air dry or pat dry with a paper towel. You can also use a microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints from the tops of your diamond or gold to maintain the sparkle between cleanings.
Special care is required for pearls, opals and other porous gemstones. Don’t get these gems wet or use any chemicals or lotions on them. Instead, use a microfiber cloth to gently rub the gemstone and polish any oils away. For pearls you may also use a slightly damp cloth.
For silver jewellery, mix baking soda and water into a watery paste and gently scrub the silver to bring back the bright white colour. Avoid contact with gemstones and wash thoroughly with water afterwards. We also have silver polishing cloths and silver cleaning solutions available for purchase.
It is also good practice to remove your jewellery while gardening or doing heavy duty housework or cleaning. Certain chemicals can be harsh on some gemstones, so it’s best not to find out which ones can cause a lasting impact on your rings! As for gardening, you don’t want to have to dig up your whole garden if you look down and notice your ring is missing or pack the diamond setting full of soil. Best to put it back on after you’ve finished!
Chlorine (from swimming pools and hot tubs) can react poorly with gold and cause pitting to occur. It’s best practice not to wear your jewellery in the pool. In general, it’s best not to wear them in lakes or oceans either, as your finger will shrink faster than the metal in your ring. Oftentimes, rings will slide off your finger without you even noticing.
Nothing quite loves each other more than diamonds and grease! Touching the gemstones in your rings can cause oils from your hands to transfer to your diamond and can contribute to the cloudiness and loss of sparkle from your beautiful gemstone. Instead, when you need to adjust or take your ring off and on, we recommend you touch the metal part of your ring.
Warranty & Insurance
Vandenbergs provides our clients with a comprehensive Legacy warranty for all items that have been manufactured by us. This does not include items that have been special ordered through one of our designer brands as they provide their own warranty.
Our warranty covers the following:
- All labour and metal costs for any manufacturing issues.
- Two free sizings within the first year (up to 2 sizes).
- Free re-tipping of prematurely worn prongs within 5 years of purchase.
- Free stone tightening within the first 5 years of purchase.
- Free replacement of melee diamonds up to 0.09cts for 5 years.
- We offer free cleaning and maintenance inspections for life, as well as retexturing or polishing.
- Any repairs needed after warranty expires are offered at a reduced rate of 20% off.
- This warranty may be voided if regular inspections have not been done at least annually.
Damage that has occurred due to wear and tear is not covered under our warranty. We recommend having your jewellery items appraised and insured by a third-party insurer in case of loss or damage.
Appraisals are based on replacement dollar value. We define this as the cost of manufacturing or replacing the item as at the date of the appraisal. We do not add a dollar value cushion to appraisals which ensures that you won’t pay extra premiums on insured pieces. You can rest assured that you will receive a current, realistic value for your item, performed by an experienced GIA Graduate Gemologist.
